Rita Chahal was recently named as one of the recipients of the 150 Manitoba Women Trailblazer Awards. The awards are being given by the Nellie McClung Foundation, in partnership with the Winnipeg Free Press, to salute the contributions that Manitoba women have made to social justice, arts, sports, politics, community activities and promoting democracy while developing the province.
“It’s extremely humbling to have been acknowledged and to be a recipient of such a great honour,” Chahal said, adding that it was a privilege to “be in the company of incredible women” who have contributed to the wellbeing of the province.
Her achievements, she said, would not have been possible without the efforts of other women who preceded her. “There are many women who have made great strides to ensure that women have an equal place at all levels in our communities, in our country,” she said.
Chahal recently became executive director of the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba.
